Layang-Layang island is an atoll located 330km from Kota Kinabalu. It is known to be one of the spot for a chance of close encounter with the infamous hammerhead sharks. A part of the 600 islands, reefs and shoals of Spratly’s, it is surrounded by clear water occupied by rich diversity of marine life.
The atoll itself is surrounded by walls and steep drop offs to average of 40meters to 60meters before plunging down to as deep as 2000meters. Due to its location by deep water, the chance for sighting of pelagic species are high especially during March to June. It also considered as the healthiest reef in Malaysia due to minimum exposure to man-made pollution.
The best way to reach the island is by plane which takes about an hour from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Currently, the resort is chartering a 12 seats plane from Malaysia Airlines.
